Roots with Nicolas
A roundtable talk in nature about ancestral superfoods, health cuisine, and culinary heritage. Guided by a Dutch food writer with roots in Java who planted his heart in Weibdeh.


Yoga with Deena
Sculpt & Stretch at sunset, centered around breath, flow, flexibility, and a quiet mind. Led by a Vinyasa and Yoga instructor who became the first Shakti Yoga dance teacher in Jordan.

About Global Wellness Day

Founded in 2012 by Belgin Aksoy, Global Wellness Day (GWD) is an entirely not-for-profit day, an international movement dedicated to living well. The fundamental purpose of the day is to direct the thoughts of individuals and society towards living well, make peace with oneself, pause, and focus on our wellbeing. GWD is celebrated only with complimentary activities by millions of people around the World simultaneously on the second Saturday of June every year. Global Wellness Day has been recognized by many presidents, mayors, schools, hospitals, associations, foundations, world-renowned athletes, businesspeople, and much more.
The theme for 2026 is #JoyMagenta, which represents the rediscovery of joy as a cornerstone of wellbeing. In today’s fast-paced and increasingly uncertain world, joy can easily be overshadowed by stress, anxiety, and disconnection. Yet, even amid challenges, joy remains within reach – waiting to be felt in the simplicity of a smile, the rhythm of music, or the beauty of nature.

Belgin Aksoy, Founder of Global Wellness Day, recently contributed to our recent article about Ancestral Superfoods from East to West Asia. With wellness now a core business strategy, how do chefs weave wellbeing into modern menus? How can restaurant owners and hoteliers across Asia design Food & Beverage experiences that elevate guest wellbeing with dishes that support heart & brain health, the microbiome, and immunity that are also ethically sourced, planet-friendly, and traceable – at scale?
Asia Sustainable Travel (AST) invited us to explore these questions in a guest article. Taking a Health Cuisine approach, we featured seven chefs and seven ancestral superfoods in six Asian countries: Kombu in Japan, Bamboo shoots in China, Holy Basil in Thailand, Ulam Raja and Heirloom Beets in Malaysia, Amaranth in India, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Jordan. The piece closes with insights from five leading experts, spanning perspectives from Singapore to Istanbul, including Begin’s.
